Jurnal Ilmiah Kesehatan (JIKA) upholds the principles of research ethics and scientific publication. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research is conducted in accordance with ethical principles, including respect for participants' rights, safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
The following requirements apply to manuscripts submitted to JIKA:
1. Research Involving Human Participants
Research involving direct participation of human subjects, such as interventions, interviews, questionnaires, or biological specimen collection, should include the ethical approval code or approval number issued by an authorized research ethics committee, where required.
2. Research Using Secondary Data
Studies using secondary data, such as published data, institutional reports, publicly available databases, or anonymized secondary data that do not allow individual identification, are not required to provide research ethics approval.
For studies involving medical records or confidential personal data, authors must ensure that appropriate data-use permission has been obtained and that confidentiality is protected in accordance with applicable regulations. Ethical approval or an ethical exemption statement should be provided when required by the relevant institution or ethics committee.
3. Lower-Risk Research
Research involving minimal or lower levels of risk should be conducted in accordance with applicable institutional and ethical requirements. The need for formal ethical review may depend on the nature of the research, the level of foreseeable risk, and the involvement of human participants.
For further guidance on lower-risk research, authors may refer to the University of Queensland's guidance:
Lower Risk Research – University of Queensland.
4. Case Reports
Authors must obtain written informed consent from the patient or an authorized representative for publication of a case report, particularly when it contains clinical information, photographs, or other details that may identify the patient.
5. Informed Consent
For research involving direct participation of human subjects, authors must ensure that participants receive adequate information about the study and provide voluntary consent before participating.
6. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Authors must protect the identity, personal information, and all data relating to research participants. Information that could identify an individual must not be published without appropriate consent.
Ethical Statements in the Manuscript
