Author Guidelines

Jurnal Ilmiah Kesehatan (JIKA) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal focusing on health sciences, including preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects of healthcare. JIKA primarily prioritizes original research articles, followed by case study articles as the secondary priority and recent scientific literature reviews as the tertiary priority.

JIKA publishes three issues annually, in April, August, and December. Submitted manuscripts undergo editorial screening and assessment of their suitability for the journal. Manuscripts that meet the journal's requirements may proceed to peer review and further editorial evaluation. Publication decisions are made by the editorial team based on the manuscript's originality, scientific quality, relevance, methodological rigor, and compliance with the journal's policies.

1. Article Criteria

1.1. Original Research Articles (Primary Priority)

Original research articles report original findings relevant to health sciences, including medical and clinical research, nutrition and public health research, midwifery and maternal health research, nursing and nursing management research, pharmacy, health promotion, and health services research.

The manuscript should follow this structure:

  • Title in Indonesian and English
  • Author Name(s) and Institution/Affiliation(s) in Indonesian
  • Abstract in Indonesian and English
  • Keywords
  • Correspondence Email Address
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions (including suggestions/recommendations)
  • Conflict of Interest (English applicable)
  • Acknowledgements (optional)
  • References

1.2. Case Study Articles (Secondary Priority)

Case study articles describe relevant and scientifically valuable cases that provide meaningful insights for readers in health sciences. The manuscript should explain the background and presentation of the case and discuss its implications for healthcare practice or other relevant areas of health sciences.

The manuscript should follow this structure:

  • Title in Indonesian and English
  • Author Name(s) and Institution/Affiliation(s) in Indonesian
  • Abstract in Indonesian and English
  • Keywords
  • Correspondence Email Address
  • Introduction (including Case Illustration)
  • Methods (specifically for evidence-based case reports)
  • Results and Discussion (specifically for evidence-based case reports)
  • Conclusions (including suggestions/recommendations)
  • Conflict of Interest (English applicable)
  • Acknowledgements (optional)
  • References

Authors must protect patient confidentiality and obtain appropriate informed consent and ethical approval when required by the nature of the report and applicable ethical standards.

1.3. Recent Scientific Literature Reviews (Tertiary Priority)

Scientific literature review articles synthesize and discuss scientific evidence on a relevant health topic. Submissions should demonstrate current relevance, a clear objective, an appropriate approach to reviewing the literature, and conclusions that contribute to health knowledge or practice.

The manuscript should follow this structure:

  • Title in Indonesian and English
  • Author Name(s) and Institution/Affiliation(s) in Indonesian
  • Abstract in Indonesian and English
  • Keywords
  • Correspondence Email Address
  • Introduction (including statement of the problem)
  • Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions (including suggestions/recommendations)
  • Conflict of Interest (English applicable)
  • Acknowledgements (optional)
  • References

The review methods should be appropriate to the type of review submitted. Authors should explain how relevant literature was identified, selected, and analyzed.

2. Instructions for Authors

2.1. Originality

JIKA publishes original works that have not been previously published in another journal. A manuscript must not be under consideration by another journal at the time of submission. Authors must disclose any relevant overlap with previously published work.

2.2. Language

Manuscripts must be written in proper, clear, concise, and standard Indonesian or English.

2.3. Formatting and Page Setup

Manuscripts must comply with the following requirements:

  • Font and Size: Times New Roman, 11 pt for the abstract and 12 pt from the Introduction through the References.
  • Paper Size: A4.
  • Margins: 3 cm on the top, bottom, left, and right.
  • Alignment: Justified alignment for the main text. Tables and figures must fit within the manuscript layout and remain legible.
  • Length: A minimum of 5 pages.

2.4. Submission System

Manuscripts must be prepared using word-processing software and submitted in .doc or .docx format.

Authors should ensure that the manuscript and all required submission information are complete before submitting.

3. Detailed Formatting Instructions

3.1. Title

The title must be provided in Indonesian and English.

  • Indonesian Title: Times New Roman, 14 pt, bold, uppercase, and arranged in an inverted-pyramid layout.
  • English Title: Times New Roman, 12 pt, italic, uppercase.
  • Subtitles may be added when necessary.

The title should be concise, informative, and representative of the manuscript's content.

3.2. Authors and Affiliations

A maximum of six authors is recommended for each manuscript. If a manuscript has more than six authors, the corresponding author should provide a justification for the number of authors. All authors who meet the authorship criteria must be listed by their full names.

The expression et al. must not be used to replace authors' names in the manuscript byline.

Each author's affiliation should include the study program or department, institution, city, and country. The corresponding author's email address must be clearly provided.

3.3. Abstract

An abstract must be provided in both Indonesian and English. Each abstract must not exceed 250 words and must be placed below the title and author information.

For original research articles, the abstract should summarize the background or objective, methods, principal results, and conclusions. For case study articles and literature reviews, the abstract should reflect the purpose, approach, main findings or discussion, and conclusions relevant to the article type.

3.4. Keywords

Keywords must be provided in Indonesian and English and placed directly below their respective abstracts.

  • Minimum: 3 keywords.
  • Maximum: 5 keywords.
  • Keywords should represent the principal concepts and subject areas of the manuscript.
  • Authors should avoid unnecessary repetition of words already used in the title.

3.5. Correspondence Email Address

The corresponding author's email address must be provided clearly in the manuscript to facilitate communication with the editorial team during submission, peer review, revision, and publication.

3.6. Citations and References

Authors must use the Harvard (with titles) referencing style. Citation and reference management software such as Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero is recommended.

For in-text citations involving more than two authors, use et al. The reference list must follow the author-listing requirements of the selected Harvard style. All references cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.

References must be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author. Only references directly cited in the manuscript should be included.

4. Reference Formatting Examples

The examples below illustrate the intended Harvard-style format. Authors should verify bibliographic information against the original sources before submission.

4.5. General Reference Requirements

  • Include only references cited in the manuscript.
  • Arrange references alphabetically by the surname of the first author.
  • Verify the accuracy and traceability of all references.
  • Include DOI links whenever available.
  • For online sources without a DOI, provide a stable URL and access date where required by the referencing style.
  • Apply the Harvard (with titles) style consistently throughout the manuscript.

5. Additional Author Declarations

Effective Starting from the December 2026 Issue

Starting from the December 2026 issue, JIKA requires authors to include the following declaration statements in their manuscripts:

  1. CONFLICT OF INTEREST
  2. AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS
  3. DECLARATION OF AI USE

These declarations aim to strengthen transparency, authorship accountability, and publication integrity. Authors must ensure that all statements accurately reflect the circumstances of their manuscripts and the actual contributions of each author.

5.1. CONFLICT OF INTEREST

The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest related to the publication of this article.

If any conflicts of interest exist, the authors must disclose them clearly and transparently.

5.2. AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS

All authors contributed to the community service activity, including conceptualization and planning, development of the implementation methods, coordination with partners and participants, implementation of the activities, data collection and analysis, evaluation, interpretation of results, and manuscript preparation and revision. All authors approved the final version of the manuscript for publication and accept responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the report of the community service activity.

Note: If individual author contributions differ, they may be specified by author, as follows:

  • [Author 1]: Conceptualization, activity planning, methodology development, and coordination of implementation.
  • [Author 2]: Activity implementation, partner mentoring, data collection, and activity documentation.
  • [Author 3]: Analysis and evaluation of activity outcomes, interpretation of results, and manuscript preparation.
  • [Author 4]: Supervision, validation, and critical revision of the manuscript.
  • All authors: Approval of the final version of the manuscript and accountability for all aspects of the implementation and reporting of the community service activity.

Final note: The contribution statement should reflect each author's actual role in the community service activity and manuscript preparation. For original research articles, case studies, and literature reviews, authors should adapt the statement to reflect their actual contributions.

5.3. DECLARATION OF AI USE

The authors declare that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools were used only to assist with language editing and grammatical correction. The authors remain fully responsible for the content and integrity of the manuscript.

Note: Authors must adapt this declaration to reflect their actual use of AI tools. If AI tools were not used, authors should state this accurately. Any substantive use of AI should be disclosed appropriately.
