About the Journal

Jurnal Ilmiah Kesehatan (JIKA) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary health journal published by Sarana Ilmu Indonesia (Salnesia). JIKA provides a scholarly platform for researchers, health professionals, academics, educators, and policymakers to disseminate high-quality scientific evidence addressing current and emerging health challenges.

 

JIKA focuses on research across the health continuum, encompassing preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative approaches. Its interdisciplinary scope covers a broad range of health sciences, including clinical and medical sciences, public health, nursing, nutrition and food sciences, pharmacy, maternal and reproductive health, health promotion, disease prevention, health services, and other emerging areas of health research.

 

History and Development

The first printed edition of JIKA was published in April 2013. In its early years, the journal operated through an offline publication system and was published three times a year, in April, August, and December.

 

From 2016 to 2018, JIKA experienced an interruption in publication due to changes in journal management and challenges in maintaining a consistent publication process. Inspired and supported by the Relawan Jurnal Indonesia (RJI) and the implementation of the Open Journal System (OJS) version 3, JIKA resumed its publication in August 2019. Since then, the journal has maintained its regular publication schedule of three issues per year, published in April, August, and December.

 

During the period 2019–2021, JIKA was published by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Akademi Keperawatan Yapenas 21 Maros. In 2022, the journal underwent a publisher transition to Sarana Ilmu Indonesia (Salnesia). This transition was undertaken as part of JIKA's commitment to strengthening the quality, professionalism, consistency, and sustainability of journal management and publication.

 

Following the transition, the journal website was migrated from the previous platform at ojs.yapenas21maros.ac.id/jika to the current platform at salnesia.id/jika. Although the publisher has changed, collaboration with the previous institution and relevant academic networks continues to be maintained.

 

Quality Development and Accreditation

JIKA was first nationally accredited as a SINTA 3 journal in 2021 through the Decree of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 158/E/KPT/2021. The journal subsequently maintained its SINTA 3 accreditation through Decree No. 177/E/KPT/2024, with the current accreditation period valid through 2027, as recorded in the official SINTA database.

 

The continuity of national accreditation reflects JIKA's commitment to maintaining standards of editorial management, peer review, publication quality, and scholarly integrity.

 

JIKA continues to strengthen its editorial and publication processes through improvements in manuscript selection, peer review, editorial management, publication ethics, digital journal management, and international visibility.

 

Submission Growth and Editorial Selectivity

The continued development of JIKA has been supported by increasing interest from authors and researchers seeking to publish their work in the journal. This growing interest has encouraged JIKA to strengthen its editorial capacity, manuscript selection, and peer-review processes to ensure that publication growth is accompanied by improvements in scholarly quality. In response to the increasing volume of submissions, JIKA has progressively strengthened its selectivity and publication standards, including stricter manuscript screening and a limit on the number of articles published per issue. These measures reflect JIKA's commitment to prioritizing scientific quality and editorial rigor over publication volume.

 

Internationalization and Bilingual Publication

As part of its continuing development toward broader international visibility, JIKA will implement a bilingual publication policy beginning with the August 2026 issue. This development allows the journal to accommodate both Indonesian- and English-language scientific communication, while progressively strengthening the accessibility of JIKA's published research to an international readership.

 

The bilingual publication policy is part of JIKA's broader strategy to improve the quality, accessibility, discoverability, and international visibility of health research published in the journal.

 

JIKA welcomes manuscripts from researchers and institutions from Indonesia and other countries, particularly research that provides scientifically rigorous, original, and relevant evidence for addressing health challenges across different populations and settings.
