Publication Ethics

Jurnal Ilmiah Kesehatan (JIKA), published by Sarana Ilmu Indonesia (Salnesia), is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process. It is informed by recognized scholarly publishing ethics standards, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and applicable research ethics requirements.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that editorial decisions are based on the manuscript’s scientific quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with publication ethics requirements. Decisions must be made objectively, without discrimination based on authors’ personal characteristics, institutional affiliations, or other irrelevant factors.

Editors must protect manuscript confidentiality, disclose and manage conflicts of interest, maintain editorial independence, and respond appropriately to allegations of research or publication misconduct. The final editorial decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief or an authorized editor.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments within the agreed timeframe. They must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts, disclose potential conflicts of interest, avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage, and identify relevant concerns regarding research integrity, originality, or publication ethics.

Reviewers must not share confidential manuscript content with unauthorized parties or upload it to AI tools or third-party services when doing so would breach confidentiality or applicable journal policies.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts present accurate research findings, constitute original work, appropriately acknowledge sources, and comply with applicable research ethics requirements.

Authors must not engage in plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate or simultaneous submission, inappropriate authorship practices, or other forms of publication misconduct. All listed authors must meet the journal’s authorship criteria, approve the submitted version, and accept responsibility for their contributions.

Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest, funding sources, and other information required by the journal. Significant errors discovered after submission or publication must be reported promptly to the editorial team.

Research Ethics and Participant Protection

Research involving human participants, identifiable personal information, or human biological materials must comply with applicable ethical and legal requirements. Authors must provide appropriate ethics committee approval or an applicable exemption, informed consent information, and other required declarations, as relevant to the study.

Authors must protect participant privacy and confidentiality. Identifiable patient information, photographs, or other sensitive materials must not be published without the necessary authorization and consent.

Originality and Similarity Screening

JIKA maintains a strict policy against plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other forms of inappropriate text or content reuse.

All manuscripts that have completed peer review and the required author revisions undergo similarity screening using Turnitin before proceeding to copyediting. JIKA applies a maximum acceptable similarity index of 25%. The similarity index is an indicator for editorial assessment and does not, by itself, establish whether plagiarism has occurred. The nature, extent, context, and attribution of any overlap must also be assessed.

Manuscripts with potentially problematic overlap may be returned for clarification or revision, or rejected where warranted by the evidence. Confirmed misconduct may lead to appropriate action under JIKA’s publication ethics policies.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, research findings or editorial decisions.

Conflicts of interest must be assessed and managed appropriately. The existence of a conflict does not automatically establish misconduct; the relevant circumstances and potential effects must be considered.

Research and Publication Misconduct

JIKA takes allegations of publication misconduct seriously. Potential concerns may include plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate publication, authorship manipulation, peer-review manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and other violations of research or publication ethics.

Allegations will be assessed fairly and confidentially, based on available evidence and with an appropriate opportunity for relevant parties to respond. Actions will be proportionate to the findings and may include manuscript rejection, correction, an Expression of Concern, retraction, or referral to an appropriate institution or authority where warranted.

Corrections and Retractions

JIKA is committed to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. When a significant error or concern is identified in a published article, the journal will assess the matter and determine the appropriate action.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include a correction notice, an Expression of Concern, or retraction. Decisions will be based on the nature and significance of the problem, the available evidence, and the applicable publication ethics standards.
