Risk Factors for Stunting in Children Age 6-7 Years

The problem of very short and short nutritional status in children aged 5-12 years in Indonesia, including in West Papua Province, was still high, namely 11,5% (very short) and 22,8% (short). The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors for stunting in children aged 6-7 years at School X Sorong City. The type of research used was an observational study with a cross-sectional design on children aged 6-7 years at School X Sorong City. Sampling was done by purposive sampling, a total sample of 35 subjects. The results of the analysis were shown that as many as 45,7% were short, and 40% were very short. The risk factors (p < 0.05) for stunting in the subject were the amount of pocket money for children at school (OR for the amount of pocket money = 2,424), the level of protein intake for children (OR for the level of protein intaken = 5,333), and the leveled of fat intake for children (OR for fat intaken level = 1,385). This research has implications for the importance of promoting a balanced intake of protein and fat in children by parents and school teachers. Thus, it can help increase the child's weight and height to a good nutritional status.
